Nicole Wolf, an artist known for her captivating murals and is set to make a significant mark on the Edmonton art scene with her latest work at ATB Place. In collaboration with Triovest for the Edmonton Mural Festival, Wolf will bring "Prairie Pigeons" to life. This large mural explores the psychological journey of young Albertans who leave their rural homes for opportunities in the urban city.
“Prairie Pigeons” is a self-portrait of sorts, depicting a figure in a state of constant transformation, adapting to environmental and technological change while still holding on to the red cord symbolizing their family ties. It captures the tension and beauty of balancing personal growth with staying connected to one's roots.
Wolf’s art practice takes her across the globe, but she feels most at home when she can see Alberta’s Rocky Mountains. Although she’s worked on various international projects, this mural is her first public piece in Edmonton, a city she is excited to contribute to through her creative lens.
Her ability to merge personal experience with collective themes makes this piece especially meaningful, reflecting her curiosity about the world and how it shapes individual identity. Wolf's work is not only a celebration of growth and change but also a reminder of the grounding power of family and tradition.
“Nicole Wolf’s ‘Prairie Pigeons’ is not just a mural; it’s a powerful reflection of the journey many young Albertans take as they leave their roots behind in search of new opportunities. The intricate symbolism of the red cord and the ever-changing figure beautifully captures the balance between transformation and connection to family, making it a poignant addition to Edmonton's urban landscape.” - Peter Gegolick, Co-Curator of the Edmonton Mural Festival.
