The stunning interior and collection of wares inside Ibon Antiques in Old Strathcona didn't really match the exterior. Formerly a ski shop, the building exterior still had the old SKI SUNDANCE letters painted into the rock stucco finish. In 2022 artists Josh Harnack and Robyn Schnierer transformed the building giving Ibon a makeover to match their brand and the spacious 2 storey store brimming with amazing furniture and all manner of collectibles, fashion, and home decor.
A Building Transformed
No two mural are the same and no two buildings are the same. The Ibon Antiques building was formerly a ski shop and the SKI SUNDANCE letters are painted directly into the exterior stucco. A near impossible removal project without tearing the stucco off the wall. It was a challenge for the mural artist to hide the ski letters but in the end 10 coats of paint were enough to hide the letters and give this great building the deserved makeover.
The Mural Art
The mural concept takes Ibon's logo and sign style to the next level. The bird in the sign is joined by two magpies. Like the bird in the sign, the magpies are keen to buy and sell treasured items from the antique store and can be seem flying new items in weekly.
We were thrilled to work with the mural festival last year. The artists did such a great job and we are so pleased with the result. The mural has truly transformed the building and delighted our customers. We feel at home more than ever in Old Strathcona. - Ibon Antiques, Owners
